Dubai transport
Use each mode for the journeys it solves best.
Dubai’s transport network is strong along specific corridors rather than uniformly door-to-door. The right plan often combines Metro for long, predictable journeys with Tram, walking or a taxi for the final part.
Tram and monorail
The Tram circulates around Marina and JBR and connects toward Palm Jumeirah. Palm Monorail is a separate system; check current ticketing and interchange details.
Taxi and ride-hailing
Useful for beaches, Palm resorts, late arrivals, groups and cross-city trips where rail would require an awkward final connection.

Area-by-area reality
The last kilometre changes the answer.
A rail station near an area name is not proof of an easy walk to every hotel or attraction.
Downtown Dubai
The Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station serves the district, but the mall, fountain precinct and individual hotels cover a large footprint. Covered links help on some routes; taxis can be simpler for mobility needs or heavy shopping.
Marina and JBR
DMCC and Sobha Realty connect with the wider Metro network. The Tram handles local movement around Marina and JBR. Canal crossings and the correct tower entrance still matter.
Palm Jumeirah
The Tram reaches the Palm gateway, while the Palm Monorail serves the island corridor. Many hotels and crescent resorts still need a taxi or property transfer for practical door-to-door access.
Old Dubai and Creek
The Green Line is useful for Al Ras, Gold Souq and Al Ghubaiba, while traditional abras cross the Creek. A short local taxi can simplify the final hotel transfer with luggage.
How to use a nol card
RTA public transport uses nol products for Metro, Tram, buses and participating marine services. Fares depend on zones and product type, and transfer rules apply. Check the current RTA nol fares and rules immediately before travel rather than relying on a fixed price in an old guide.
Airport arrivals
DXB Terminals 1 and 3 have Red Line stations. Terminal 2 does not have a terminal Metro station, so its transfer logic differs. Late-night and early-morning arrivals should confirm current service hours and may need a taxi. The Dubai Airport guide covers that decision in detail.
When a car helps—and when it does not
A rental car can make sense for repeated trips outside central corridors, but it is not automatically easier for a Downtown-and-Marina city break. Compare hotel parking, tolls, pickup logistics and driver confidence with the likely taxi spend. Do not rent simply because Dubai is geographically large.
